The Female Trinity of South Indian Music

M.S.Subbulakshmi as Meera
M.L.Vasanthakumari
D.K.Pattamal in a concert

"Bhajagovindam Bhajagovindam"....On hearing this divine song no one would ever forget the writer Sri Adhi Shankaracharya for sure. But more than that the essence of the song detailing the A-Dhwaitham has reached and been reaching far-flung by the mesmerising voice that rendered the song. That was non other than the one and only M.S.Subbulakshmi maam.

Next the flavour of "Marghazhi month" is the chanting of the "Aandal Thirupaavai" which has been reverberating in temples, sabhas and houses with M.L.Vasantha Kumari maam's melufluos voice since ages.
Last but definitely not the least in the induction of Patriotic feel in the Tamil society with the thought provoking lines of Mahakavi,D.K.Pattamal maam's bold and emotional voice has played a vital role.

From the context itself its clear that these three legends were called the the "Female Trinity of Music".M.S.S,M.L.V and D.K.P marked their presence strongly in the world of South Indian music both in Classical and Cinema. The three gems shined with their respective kind of voices and still and ever be remembered.

Madurai Shanmughavadivu Subbulakshmi Maam's performance and songs in the movie Meera is an everlasting piece of excellence in music. Her rendition of "Kaatriniley and Giridhara Gopala" songs stimulates divinity and bhakthi in us.There a re lot of facts about her right from her childhood till her last breathe. But elucidating those facts and events are like creating a replica of WIKI which becomes a cliche by itself. This post is to salute the music exponents, their woks and master pieces and and not a biography.

M.S.amma r mami, as she is fondly called by her admirers had reached greater and greater altitudes in music especially the bhakti maarg.Vishnu Sahasranaama,Annamacharya kritis ,Hanuman chalisa etc are like composed for her to sing only. She is still living in her godly voice and songs with us.

M.S.S

In those ages (in 40s,50s,) it was very tough for a girl r woman to establish herself in any field other than being a genuine, silent, traditional house wife. But these eminent personalities broke those barriers and proved themselves a lot.

Especially D.K.P sang lot of national songs even before freedom and got acclamations and criticisms from various streams of people. But she continued with her full support from the family even after marriage and now her third generation (Dr.Nithiya sree maam) has established by the way that she paved long long back.

The songs like"Aaduvome","Vetri ettu" in the movie Naam Iruvar by A.V.M were outstanding and powerful. Her unique base and bold voice made her travel in a great path and reach higher altitudes in her carrier.

If M.S .S and D.K.P were two jewels then obviously M.L.V was a diamond. She took her own special way of singing whether it comes to classical or devotional r filmy and accomplished herself well which has again opened up way for their disciples like Sudha raghunathan Maam to establish herself. Her daughter the late veteran actress Srividhya also used to sing well. She faced a lot of difficulties in her life travel and expired at an young age comparitively..Else she would have never been replaced by any one.Even now she has not been replaced completely. Her "Thituppavai","Aadaatha manamum","Chinna chiru kiliyae","Ellam Inbha mayam","Ayya Saami" etc are exquisite works.Unlike M.S.S(especially her husband Mr.Sadhasivam), D.K.P she dint have much support from her family as she had to support her family's livelihood.

If discussed, this topic never ends as the accolades of these three precious women never ends.Though they are not with us their works are always there in us in each cell of us.They are universal gurus and inspirations for many.Though they were contempararies of their time, they never treid to outshine each other but excelled in their own streams. They not only achieved self credits abut made India to attain an invaluable name internationally.

"Aacharya Devo bhava".Thank you guys for reading this post patiently.
