Ding Dong Ding Dong!!!,,,It was half past eight in the night."Daddy Where are U?",Aishu was yelling ."Hey whats happening there kiddo?!Don't cry....Don't cry"......,a bold voice trying to pacify the child's cry came from the kitchen.That is Aishu's Mom Divya..
Aishu,an eight year old cute looking,intelligent girl has been waiting for her Dad's visit right from 6.30 in the evening.She started,
"Mom,Dad has promised to take us out today.See he hasn't come yet....What's this....What's this Mooooooom".....Her longing came along with the words which she uttered.
"Don't worry Aishu! Dad is on the way he will be here in another ten minutes then we will go out for sure.OK"...,Divya tried consoling her child knowing the fact that her husband will come only in the mid night.
"Mom...this has been happening since last week...no last month...nopeeeeeeee right from my birth i guess",Aishu weeped helplessly.The way she spoke to her mom shows that she knows something wrong is happening around her as she has been facing that since her birth, but she's unable to decipher what it is and that's the innocence in her.
Divya spoke in a soft voice....."Aishu dear come, we will have food then we will go out with dad.He will be coming by the time we complete our dinner".Aishu said...."Mom U said dad will be there in ten minutes..now already five minutes over....and u r telling we will have the dinner and wait for him.U started Ur daily act mom....stop it.....Why is it happening to me alone God.....save me....Dad is not doing what he has promised to do...Mom is lying to stop me crying...But they are asking me to be a good child.Hows it possible god"....,She shouted..
Finally Divya some how made Aishu have the dinner around 9.p.m.The child started her work of pestering her mom for dad again and due to lot of home works,dance practices and crying, she got tired and laid down to sleep.Divya patted her lovable daughter and made her to sleep deep.
We have been looking the situation from Aishu's point of view all these time.Now let's change the position.Divya is a post graduate in Business Administration hailing from deep south of Tamilnadu.Her family is a very traditional,conservative family.But they aren't conservative with education.Divya's parents are very society bound and even relative bound to certain extent.Every one in their family circles give importance to marriage with in their community only .Divya is also very family bound and accepted her parent's choice when it came to her marriage.Her parents have been taking worth and sensible decisions when it comes to Divya right from child hood.Though they give importance to her thoughts,finally it was their decision to marry Divya to Karthik Kumar, an A-grade Economics professor in one of leading colleges in Chennai.Yes ,Karthik Kumar is Mr.Divya.For name sake we can say like this but in reality Its only Mrs.Divya Karthik Kumar.Yes,she accepts his views and decisions and obliges to him many times. Her parents expected a very disciplined,well learned,well earning ,understanding person as their son-in-law.In fact till marriage or even a month or two after marriage Karthik was like that only.
But the real being started coming out soon and it was first noted at a get together held at their house.Karthik invited his colleagues for a party-Getto at his house in Chennai.Divya had to make herself and the food ready for the party.She was happily waiting for his friends-colleagues arrival at the party.As expected they all arrived in the late evening and the party extended till early night.But there happened an unexpected thing of her life.
Karthik had already introduced Divya to his friends and few who had come for their wedding would definitely know her.But she was not familiar with any of them.Suddenly in the party Karthik called her and asked her to bring a Wine bottle which he had kept in his car.Though Divya is from a traditional family,She is well educated and hence knows about social drinking which has become quite common these days.But she never expected that in her house party.
Any ways she dint react much and went inside to bring the bottle.But to her astonishment when she came back Karthik was drinking in full-fledge with his friends and started teasing his colleagues and friends inclusive of the ladies.It was mind boggling for Divya....But she understood the situation and dropped the bottle down.She ran to the place and shouted Karthik....
"What's happening here?
What are U doing?
OHHHHHHHHHHHHH stop it!"
Every one there was taken aback and was startled by this.Suddenly there was a pin drop silence and Divya's words were echoing in every one's mind.Few even kept the bottle and the scoop and moved away from the place.Few were standing anxiously.But Karthik started his turn now........"Hey what's this give me the bottle and go away.Ur job ends there...U don't have any rights to poke Ur nose into this.Its my party ;AM hosting this.I will do what ever I want.U shut up and move away".......,Divya was puzzled and dumbstruck.Shehad never ever imagined of such a reply form her so called kind hearted ,soft spoken husband.She stood there like a tree.She wanted to blast back, but her brought up and family values made her not to shout.She felt that if she shouts then it will become an issue and end up in a problem as Karthik was tottering and not in sense at all.But it was a huge blow for her.
In few minutes the party hall was empty leaving Karthik alone on a sofa.He was too drunk and his friends made him lie on the sofa.No body spoke a single word to Divya and moved away.Few moved in shame and few gave frosty looks and moved.Karthik muffled "Divya my bottle....U U U....I l kick U, U mean.....U ........................",and fell unconscious.Divya had seen drunkards only in movies or on the road side.This was quite strange and the most frustrating situation for her so far.She was staying alone with Karthik.His parents are also from deep south .They were here for some time and have gone to do their works in their native but have forgotten a major duty here ,that is refining their stumbling son.But it was of no use as they have warned him many times to change and got fed up with him.They even went back to their native due to their frustrating son.But they could have been just with Divya's life.Poor parents subdued to their son and caring for him too much felt Divya would change him.
Divya some how manged to lift Karthik to the bed room.She was about to faint.But she some how gasped and fell down on the bed.She gave a huge scream and started crying aloud.She was unable to control her cry as she has been really hurt by the weird behaviour of her husband.She cried cried and cried.Finally she slept of tiredness.
This dint stop with that day alone.It started continuing most of the days and at one point of time it became a routine.Both the hubby and wife were fighting almost everyday.Divya was polite in explaining her stand but she couldn't be the same with the most rugged guy as she describes him to her closest friend Lakshya, who suggested Divya to tell about this mishap to her parents.But Divya never wanted her parents to know that their selection was the worst, that too it was the matter of life.She knows that her parents will feel blue extremely and will even affect their health especially of her Dad who's already sick with major cardiac disorders.They were happy thinking that they have married their daughter to a wonderful person on earth that too at the right age before something happens to them.But the truth can't be kept concealed for a long time.Lakshya opened up everything to Divya' Mom and Dad over the phone.
Divya was surprised and shocked to see her parents waiting in front of her door.She welcomed them with a fake smile.Before Lakshya could tell about the incident Divya's parents arrived here.So Divya was unaware of the happenings.She greeted her Dad and Mom and was talking blah blah blah ....to them.But she din't have any response from them.She could feel that something was fishy.When she asked her mom,she couldn't control her tears and her Dad was completely wet in his eyes.He uttered few words only "Oh my god I have spoiled my daughter's life" and before Divya could speak something he fainted.They urged to the hospital."Thank god he is out of danger....U brought him at the right time"....,The doctor said and both Divya and her mom gave a deep sigh.
Karthik was informed about this and he dint even bother.He came in the midnight as usual and Divya was there at the drawing room.She was crying all alone.Her Mom was in the hospital.Karthik had drunk and he was almost in the stage of semi consciousness.He was murmuring to himself.....Hey is Ur dad alive r dead?who asked him to come here and die.....idiot........Divya felt very bad and helpless.She had no one now with her .Her poor parents are suffering the pain already.She knew that her relatives in the native would make the situation worse if they come to know than providing a solution for this.But they came to know as something major has happened here with her dad.
Divya's dad woke up the next morning and Divya ,Mom and Lakshya went to meet him.Few relatives have already arrived knowing this news partially.The relatives entered the patient room even before Divya could enter.they started mourning and shouting as if Divya's das is no more.Actually something serious has only happened to him.But they dint try to console him rather they added fuel to the burning fire.
After a lot of struggle Divya was able to control her surroundings.Lakshya felt heavy at the heart as she had initiated this trouble.Finally the doctors came and made the crowd move away.After a lot of talks Divya's Dad,Mom and her relatives came to a conclusion.They wanted to talk to Karthik.Divya refused but couldn't do anything better than this as her Dad's life was also there.But she knew that if spoken to Karthik this situation would become more problematic and couldn't predict the result of the talks.But her relatives very badly wanted to speak with him and so her parents too.Divya's Dad was in the hospital for at least two days.But Karthik never turned his way there.All the relatives went to Divya's house along with her parents to talk to Karthik.Divya knew that they weren't going to talk and were only going to blast.
Karthik got up and dressed himself to go the college.He is actually a genuine,friendly professor to the students in the morning talking about the country's economy,a student counselor etc etc.....But in the evening he is a demi no an animal completely which few of his students even knew.OK now coming to the current context ,Divya's relatives called Karthik as he was getting down the stairs.He paused for a while and could see a gang of people waiting there in the hall.He shouted ..."hey Divya who are they....Hey Ur dad is still there......hey y are they here....ask them to go their place or get away from here".,Divya's parents and relatives were really boggled to see such a Karthik as they have only seen goody goody Karthik till this point in life.Though they have heard,they haven't seen him aggressive like this before.They were even annoyed to see Karthik's parents standing helplessly.But on the other hand Divya expected this to happen.Her relatives started passing comments and they went near him to shout at him straight in the face holding the collars.But Dad stopped them at his pitch of the voice and mom was pleading.Karthik dint know how to react.But Divya patiently stopped everyone there.
She said "Dad I want to tell U all something.Don't think AM talking too much and too matured.I'm educated and I have been brought up very well.I have been facing lots of experiences in my life that too after marriage.Let them be bitter or good.But I have been facing them,I have been living with Karthik for almost eight months.Though we are not in good terms now, we are couples and we know each other.I know how to face him and he knows the same.So U elders should not mistake me.Its my life I will take care.Dad and mom never feel bad that Ur daughter's life is at stake.U dint do anything bad.U did only good to me right from my education.But things have changed unexpected.That's life.its dynamic.Its not a cake walk.Its a rope walk.U all know better than me.All couples will have some miss understandings.The case is similar here.u people don't worry and leave it here.No body has done any crime here.Please stop it.Hope u all can understand this".She looked bold and nonchalant but definitely she feels at her heart.Karthik never imagined of such a reply from Divya and he was looking at her with mixed emotions.All the elders tried to persuade her but she was stubborn in her views.Karthik dint speak even a single word.He had a feel of escapism.He wondered at Divya's speech as he has never respected her except for the first two months and he has even bet her at times.
Divya opened up her views in front of her close circles.But has she really opened up?or was it just a response to put a full stop to the chaos there.She herself was not sure.She questioned herself whether it was a timely outburst or a deep emotional outburst.?..!?.She thought for some time .She came out of her room and Karthik was standing right there.She looked at him and started moving ahead.He said
"Divya hold on.....hold on for a minute".......She stopped and turned towards him with a blank face.
Divya..... "Thanks for everything" ......,She was blank still."Thanks dear".....He said again stressing on the second word.
She dint speak anything and turned aside.She started going out of the house.Karthik again interrupted her.
"Divuuu....One sec ...She paused.Hey still angry with me......I'm sorry for everything which I had done so for..all the torture,insulting acts,assaulting words,,,,sorry sorry sorry in thousands....tonnes.....Dear,Darling"..........,Divya interrupted him and said
"Karthik what do u want from me...What u want me to do for u....Y r u trying to please me suddenly with Ur words.......tell me soon I have to go to the shop", she said hurrying to leave the place.....
Karthik started now..."hey common I mean it......I never expected that U l support me in front of Ur people.I thought at first that I can handle the situation.But when Ur people came quarreling with me I couldn't help it.I was helpless and desperate.But U helped me and u spoke for me rather than Ur parents and Ur people who have been supporting u a lot by all means.I understood the blunder I have been doing to u so far.I was in just....Am very sad for that....Please accept me. We l live together happily.....We l start our lives fresh",.He winked....He went near Divya to hug her.....But she pushed him....
"Hey Karthik...U r the same and U l be the same...I know U.....More than any one...In this after marriage life I have clearly understood U.At this moment U need me and this compassion is due to Ur escape because of me.It l last for another hour that's all.I dint speak for u moreover....I wanted my parents and my relatives to stop the act and wanted my ill ,depressed dad to live.If he has started fighting that time it would have been a threat for his life itself.U would not have stopped and my relatives few would increase it.Don't try Ur cheap pleasing means with me..But one thing, I l be with u....for ever.....I think U l only tease girls and not indulge in any illegal acts.I have never seen u like that.If u do that also I will not be sad.....I know this is my life..I l have to live it with u...My parents have made me to get married to u thinking that U r my right person.Now that they came to know it doesn't mean that I'm gonna go away from u.I cant go away....May be U l use this as a weapon for u..But that's the fact and my state..Though AM well learned AM bound to the society and family than self.So I l be with u only.I know that U R a professor and U have reached this level in a short span.U need money too.So U l be working well and will put a good guy attitude to Ur students.U r doing a noble job and U r like this..U too know that..But U r a "Drunkard Professor"...Ur heart is good but Ur mind is spoiled and also Ur life.See U dint come to see my dad in the hospital because Ur mind is only concentrating on drinking and not anything even Ur students will understand u soon if u r like this as u can't teach them too well.. and there is no use taking this matter to Ur mom or Ur relatives as well...They may be knowing about u and they l also come and speak here trying to solve and my family will also come and it will not end up positively for sure,giving pains to everyone...Even Ur parents are weak and u r the only son....I don't want to spoil Ur family too...If u change yourself by any means on any day then also I wont enjoy the happiness as already its lost and can't be redeemed.What ever position U acquire in this society I l be like this only with u.It doesn't mean that I l not be carrying Ur child;I think AM already......So there is no use in giving false promises and I don't waste time in making u refined as that will end up in vein.U yourself will become alright one day.May be soon r far late....I don't no....But I l be with u and will do what ever I'm supposed to do for u".
She left the place after her true speech.Karthik felt like he was hammered....But he thanked god and said to himself ......"I can be the way i want....she will not complain or do anything against me........AM gonna become a father..ooooooooooooooooooo"...,He left the place......
From that time till now he is the same and she is also the same..Aishu is eight years old now.....She has started understanding the situation Lil..But still people are the same....He is a father and she is a mother but both are not a good couple they remain parted in hearts......If god wills and times turn may be they will be united in wavelengths too...
"Aishu get up......Good morning......School time common".............,Divya started to wake her child as her husband was sleeping semi consciously in the room......May be for Aishu he can change... But that's life and Divya has accepted it...
